Police department in Wisconsin listening for loud exhausts, could result in citations

WAUSAU, Wis. (WFRV) — As temperatures start to rise, authorities in central Wisconsin are reminding motorists to check their exhausts for noise.

The Wausau Police Department posted on its Facebook page, reminding motorists about loud exhausts. Authorities say that as it gets warmer, they get more complaints from citizens regarding loud exhaust noise.

The post said it doesn’t matter if the exhaust is broken or intentionally modified; a citation could be given. Drivers are risking a citation and the money to modify the exhaust back to stock level, police said.

As we ramp up into summer, an issue that becomes more prevelant are complaints from citizens about loud exhaust noise. Doesn’t matter if it’s on a truck, car or motorcycle….if it’s broken or intentionally modified….it’s loud. This is a quality of life concern for our citizens and one which we do enforce.

So a few reminders to save yourself and your neighbors some headaches. If you choose to intentionally modify your exhaust, you are risking a citation and the money to modify it back to stock level. And if your vehicle exhaust becomes defective, please repair it to eliminate the increase in noise.
