Deputies say the boat, operated by a 40-year-old man from Omro, was heading south on Lake Poygan when it experienced mechanical issues, causing the engine to shut down and leading the boat to take on water before quickly submerging itself.
Occupants of the boat were said to have grabbed and used coolers as a flotation device until rescue boats were able to find them hours after the incident occurred.
One man, one woman, and three juveniles were safely brought back to the shore. All five people involved in the incident were evaluated on the scene by EMS and released.
