GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – With summer in full swing and pools across Green Bay seeing steady traffic, the City’s lifeguards and first responders are taking extra steps to stay ready.
On Friday morning, the Green Bay Metro Fire Department partnered with the City’s Parks, Recreation & Forestry Department for a mock emergency training exercise at Resch Aquatic Center.

The scenario simulated two water rescues, complete with lifeguard CPR and a patient handoff to EMS crews.
“We have about 75 lifeguards here in the city for all three of our facilities,” said Ann DeMeuse, Recreation Supervisor for Green Bay Parks. “One of our main goals is to make sure our lifeguards are ready to respond to any type of emergency that happens in our pool.”
The training focused on improving coordination between lifeguard teams and paramedics, particularly during high-stress moments when seconds count.
“When we respond to any incident, it can be chaotic, being an emergency,” said Lt. Shauna Walesh with the Green Bay Metro Fire Department. “Knowing the staff here is ready and prepared is a huge part of making that emergency go smoothly and having a good outcome for that patient as well.”

Officials are also reminding families to follow basic water safety practices — including swimming with a buddy, staying close to children and always listening to lifeguards.
