APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) – Officials with the Appleton Fire Department say the department’s emergency medical care will now be enhanced with the ability to begin providing Advanced Life Support.

According to a release, the new change will allow personnel within the Appleton Fire Department to provide high-quality ALS care, which will help create a more integrated response with the City’s EMS provider, Gold Cross Ambulance.
This isn’t about replacing ambulance care, it’s about enhancing it. We’re now better positioned to stabilize patients early and assist ambulance crews more effectively once they arrive. It strengthens our community partnership and ensures better outcomes for our residents.

The department’s recent certification by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services as a 911 Non-Transporting Paramedic Provider has allowed the change to take place.
Officials say this now allows AFD paramedics to initiate more advanced care within minutes of their arrival on the scene, while Gold Cross Ambulance will still be handling any required transports.
This is a significant step forward in our mission to serve the people of Appleton. Upgrading to ALS service ensures that when seconds count, our crews can deliver critical interventions immediately, before a transporting ambulance arrives.
