GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – Wisconsin Public Service announced that it’s working on a project to help protect power lines from damage during severe storms.
According to a release, Wisconsin Public Service is on pace to protect over 2,600 miles of power lines just by trimming and/or removing about 4,000 trees.
The ones in question are considered ‘danger’ trees, which are dying or dead, many of which have been infected by the emerald ash borer beetle. The project also includes trees that have quickly grown too close to equipment.
The release said that the largest cause of power outages for Wisconsin Public Service customers is due to trees and branches falling on equipment, which happened on Tuesday morning on Green Bay’s east side.
That outage impacted about 3,200 customers, but it was quickly resolved by crews on the scene.
