HORTONVILLE, Wis. (WFRV) – At the Black Otter Supper Club in Hortonville, it’s “prime time.” The motto not only highlights their delicious prime rib, but also invites anyone brave enough to take on a food challenge that few have conquered.
Ten pounds of prime rib. It’s not for the faint of heart or weak of stomach.
When the order comes in and Chef Sara Brzezinski sees the ticket for the challenge, her reaction is almost always the same.
“I’m like, they aren’t going to be able to do it,” said Brzezinski. “That’s a lot of meat.”
Local 5’s cameras were rolling in 2022 when YouTube star and professional eater Randy Santel devoured all 10 pounds of the prime rib.
“I am done with prime rib for a really long time,” Santel said at the time. “I really enjoyed it while I was eating it. That was delicious food. I would really love to come back here to Black Otter Supper Club for a normal meal.”
Santel became one of just four people in 22 years to complete the challenge.
“They are positive they are going to do it, and then they get halfway through and they struggle,” said owner Geri Guyette.
Beyond the challenge, the Black Otter is also known for its salad bar—where staff serve the customers, something Guyette says is a rarity.
“I don’t know if there’s anyone else who serves the customers salad bar,” she said.
While the Black Otter is original in many ways, Guyette says there are qualities that connect them with other supper clubs across northeast Wisconsin.
“A supper club is family,” she said. “If you go to a chain, the owners aren’t going to be there. Bob and I are here all the time—most of the time, I should say—but we also work this.”
That family atmosphere keeps loyal customers coming back, including twin sisters Kaitlin and Kylie Dreschel from Greenville, who visit at least once a week, sometimes twice.
Though they’re twins, their orders couldn’t be more different. Kylie enjoys trying something new, while Kaitlin sticks with her favorite.
“The grilled cheese, which is the best grilled cheese I’ve ever had,” Kaitlin said.
Whether you’re after a grilled cheese or aiming to conquer the 10-pound prime rib, everyone is treated the same at the Black Otter: like family.

“You just feel like you’re at home,” the sisters said. “Everyone is so welcoming, and the owners will come up and talk with you and just have a normal conversation.”
