OCONTO, Wis. (WFRV) – On Wednesday morning, crews responded to a plastic fabrication company in Oconto for reports of a fire in a machine that is valued at $500,000.
Around 9:10 a.m. on July 9, the Oconto Fire and Rescue Department was called to the 100 block of Mott Street at LeTourneau Plastic, Inc. for a water flow alarm.

Before crews arrived, the alarm company had reportedly confirmed that there was a fire in a machine that was put out.
Upon arrival, everyone had evacuated, and crews were directed towards the machine that had been on fire.
Witnesses reported that they were preparing to put out the fire when the sprinkler system was activated, leading to the extinguishing of the fire.

One person was taken to a local hospital for treatment of a minor injury.
“OFRD would like to commend the staff at LeTourneau Plastics, Inc. on their quick response with fire extinguishers,” OFRD’s release stated. “Their rapid response, along with the building being outfitted with a sprinkler system, helped mitigate fire damage to only one machine, which has an estimated value of $500,000.”
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
