FOND DU LAC, Wis. (WFRV) – At Kelley Country Creamery, it is not only about the blooming sunflower field, but it’s also about supporting the veterans.
Their annual “Sunflowers Taking Flight” event is in full bloom, where they raise money for Old Glory Honor Flights.
Donations to Wisconsin Humane Society being tripled in month of August
These flights take veterans to Washington, D.C., to see the memorials for the branch they served in.
“It’s a lot of sacrifices out there that we probably don’t think about every day because we come and go as we please,” owner Karen Kelley said. “But, we can help them experience closure for some that didn’t get the acknowledgement for themselves when they came back.”
Until August 1, visitors can walk the sunflower field, with every single donation going toward funding the Honor Flights. Since the event began eight years ago, the Kelleys have raised over $300,000.
One veteran and visitor, Richard Miller, said he was on an Honor Flight. Miller served in Korea in 1986 and 87, calling the Honor Flight experience powerful.

“They treated us like Kings,” Miller said. “It was beautiful, they were just finishing up the Korean Memorial when we were there and it was exceptional.”
