GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) — For the first time in franchise history, the Green Bay Blizzard will hang a championship banner inside the Resch Center.
The Blizzard defeated the Quad City Steamwheelers 71–64 in the IFL Eastern Conference Championship. It was Green Bay’s 7th one-score game of the year. During the regular season, the Blizzard went 3-3 in those games, but, when it mattered most, in the IFL playoffs, they went 1-0.
“This is a team full of resilience, and that’s what it’s always been about,” Blizzard Head Coach Corey Roberson said.
All season long, Roberson has preached that the team’s success on the football field is an organization effort, from the players to the coaching staff to the front office. However, after GB’s Eastern Conference Championship win over the Steamwheelers, Roberson had to pause for a minute and give credit to his starting quarterback, Max Meylor.
“He’s been our leader since day one,” Roberson added. “He’s been every bit as advertised of what he’s been able to do.”
“We’re just a selfless team, man. It’s not about one single guy on this team; it’s about us, and only about us, and we’re almost there,” Blizzard quarterback Max Meylor said.
Kickoff for the IFL Championship game in Tucson, Arizona, is scheduled for 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23.
