LUXEMBURG, Wis. (WFRV) – It’s certainly not a sight you see every day, and Luxemburg residents of all ages stood outside and watched in awe as about 350 tons of plywood, brick and mortar cruised down the street to its new location.
The nearly 700,000-pound St. Mary’s Parish House in Luxemburg slowly made its way down Church Street as community members lined the road, curiously observing the home’s three-mile journey to a new location.
A pair of young sisters in Luxemburg, Andi and Ramzi Metzler, both watched in disbelief at the impressive and difficult journey.
“I as like, ‘whoa,’ I can’t believe they’re moving such a big house,” Ramzi said.
Her sister, Andi, agreed, expressing her disbelief when it rolled by.
“I can’t believe they did it!”
The home, which is being relocated three miles to the end of a cul-de-sac, is being moved to make space for a new building next to the church. Construction crews are already working on the new building.
Luxemburg resident Al Seidl said it’s something they’ll probably never see again.
“This is quite the deal, we’ll probably never see another home coming down [the road] like this,” Seidl said. “It’s huge, just huge.”

While demolishing the home was possible, a buyer stepped in to preserve the history, taking ownership of the old home, keeping it alive for a relocation.
The abnormal moving process has been months in the making, and crews lifted it off its foundation and over the next couple of weeks, the old house finally reach its new home.
