APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) – It was indeed an extravaganza on Wednesday during a brat fry held by the Appleton American Legion Post 38 that raised a record amount for the Old Glory Honor Flight.
Every Wednesday, Post 38 hosts a brat fry to benefit local Veterans and their families, and on Wednesday, August 20, officials shattered their goal of exceeding their 2024 event of $7,000.

“With the support of thousands that patronized the event and the selfless generosity of the event’s partners, yesterday’s event raised $16,000 for Old Glory Honor Flight!” said Appleton American Legion Post 38 Commander, Jarrod Coulter.
Special features at this year’s event included new menu items to include corn on the cob donated by The Bar on Lynndale, a visit by fury friends from the Fox Valley Humane Association, musical entertainers, and the Wisconsin Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall on display.

Coulter said the trip provides healing for veterans, specifically mentioning those who served in Vietnam and didn’t get much of a homecoming.
“Especially [for our] Vietnam veterans who were not welcomed back, probably in the best way, the old glory’s purpose is to give back a little bit,” Coulter said. “We are more than happy to help fund it in any way that we can.”
