KENOSHA, Wis. (WFRV) – A nine-year-old child in southeastern Wisconsin was injured Tuesday after accidentally discharging a handgun.
According to the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the home of a Kenosha Police Department member after receiving a report of an accidental firearm discharge.
Investigators say the child accessed a locked gun safe, obtained a handgun, and accidentally fired it, causing minor injuries to their hand. The weapon involved was not the officer’s duty firearm.
The child’s name has not been released, and the investigation remains ongoing.
