STURGEON BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – Officials in Door County celebrated the installation of numerous electronic signs at multiple parks and beaches designed to give real-time updates on water safety.
In a post from the City of Sturgeon Bay, officials state that these electronic signs are used to provide accurate information to beachgoers, indicating the water quality and conditions.
In 2023, five signs were installed at parks like Sunset and Otumba. Now, five more signs have been installed in northern Door County.

These signs have green, yellow and red lights to indicate the water quality in real-time.
- Green lights indicate open swimming
- Yellow lights indicate that a swimming advisory is active
- Red lights indicate that swimming is closed off
The lights are based on monitoring from Door County Health and the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh’s Environmental Research and Innovation Center. The signs are immediately updated from the test lab if contaminants are present in the water and deemed a public safety hazard.
