(WJW) – A popular snack item is being pulled from shelves.
The J.M. Smucker Co. issued a market withdrawal of select lots of Hostess Ding Dongs due to the potential presence of mold.
The recall listed on the Hostess website says a “mechanical issue with a piece of equipment created conditions that could support the development of mold in the product prior to the expiration date.” According to the company, the issue was resolved quickly but a selection of multiple sizes of Hostess Ding Dongs products were still impacted.
Those products, listed below, have “Best By” dates ranging from August 30 to September 3, 2025.

Consumers are advised not to consume the impacted items and contact Hostess.
Powerball jackpot climbs to historic level
It’s unclear in which states or stores the products were sold, but SpartanNash, which shared a recall notice about the Hostess Ding Dongs, serves roughly 2,500 retail locations “across the U.S.” That includes roughly 200 of its own grocery stores, operating under names like Family Fare, D&W Fresh Market, and Needler’s Fresh Market. The company has locations in North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, and Kentucky.
Four other grocery retailers that have locations in the Midwest — Kroger, Walmart, Target, and Meijer — do not currently list the above recall on their sites.
