EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WFRV) – More than 550 pounds of food and hygiene supplies were collected through the “Cones for a Cause” food drive benefiting families in Eau Claire and LA Crosse.
The community effort, organized by Opportunity Wisconsin, came as many Wisconsin households face rising grocery prices and cuts to food assistance. Customers who donated non-perishable items at Ramone’s Ice Cream Parlor in Eau Claire or The Pearl in La Crosse received a free ice cream cone in return.
The drive brought in 250 pounds of food for The Community Table in Eau Claire and over 300 pounds for The Hunger Task Force and Hope Restores in La Crosse.
Wisconsin families are getting hit twice—first with higher prices at the store thanks to Trump’s tariffs.

“We’re so grateful to the Wisconsinites who stepped up to support this food drive and our local partners,” said Meghan Roh, program director at Opportunity Wisconsin.
Local organizers say the event highlighted both the challenges families are facing and the willingness of communities to support one another.
