GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – Releasing healthy and healed wildlife back into their natural habitat is a key mission of Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary’s rehabilitation program.
Several months ago, an eagle was found injured at Barkhausen Waterfowl Preserve. Brown County Park Rangers brought the bird to Bay Beach, where caregivers spent months helping it heal until it was strong enough to fly and survive in the wild.

On Wednesday, staff returned the eagle to the Barkhausen Waterfowl Preserve and released it back into nature.
“Eagles are such an important part of our ecosystem,” said Lori Bankson, curator of animals at Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary. “Their comeback story in Wisconsin — from the brink of extinction in the 1970s to now having so many nest sites in the area — is a true example of what we can do to help wildlife. We are excited to have this eagle returned to the wild where he belongs.”
