WEST BEND, Wis. (WFRV) – A 20-year-old attempted armed robbery suspect was arrested after fleeing a southeastern Wisconsin gas station on a bike, and later running from law enforcement before falling down a 20-foot drop and breaking his femur.
Around 2 a.m. on August 28, officers with the West Bend Police Department responded to an attempted armed robbery at a gas station near West Washington Street and 18th Avenue in West Bend.
According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, witnesses gave a description of the suspect; however, he fled the scene on a bicycle before officers arrived.

A few minutes later, a deputy with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office spotted a man matching the description of the suspect near West Washington Street and US Highway 45. When the deputy tried to make contact with the man, he reportedly abandoned the bike and fled on foot.
The suspect, later identified as a 20-year-old man from Milwaukee, then jumped a fence on a property near West Washington and University. However, on the other side of the fence was a roughly 20-foot drop.
After falling down the drop, the man was taken into custody. He reportedly suffered a broken femur as a result of the fall. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
The West Bend Police Department is handling the criminal charges and is leading the investigation.
Sheriff Martin Schulteis praised the teamwork involved with the multiple agencies during the incident.

I’m proud of the quick actions taken to ensure this dangerous suspect was taken into custody.”
