FLORENCE COUNTY, Wis. (WFRV) – The Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) is investigating human skeletal remains found in northern Wisconsin in October 2022, providing an update with new composite sketches to help identify the person.

According to the release, a hunter found human skeletal remains in Florence County in the morning on October 28, 2022, with investigative work starting shortly after the report.
Data from examinations of the remains have led officials to believe that the following are characteristics of the individual:
- An adult woman aged 30-83 at the time of death
- Around 4-foot-8 to 5-foot-4
- White and/or Hispanic
In addition, data from soil and dental examinations have led officials to believe the individual had been dead for at least two years and up to 15 years before the remains were found.
The Wisconsin State Crime Laboratory has worked over the past nearly three years with private labs and law enforcement to try and identify the individual; however, results have not been effective.
Data has, however, excluded known missing people from Wisconsin and surrounding states.
