FOND DU LAC, Wis. (WFRV) – A suspect driver is still being sought after officials in Fond du Lac say they fled a traffic stop initiated in a Walmart parking lot around 2:44 p.m. on Wednesday.
According to the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy witnessed a vehicle ignore a traffic signal along with an equipment violation. The deputy spoke to the occupants; however, the driver put the vehicle in drive and fled.
A short pursuit was terminated after the deputy reportedly lost sight of the suspect vehicle; however, deputies found it abandoned behind a Pick ‘n Save on West Johnson Street. The Fond du Lac Police Department also responded, setting up an area perimeter.
Sabish Middle School was placed on lockdown due to the proximity and impending end of the school day, as a Sheriff’s Office K9 tracked the suspect passenger, a 28-year-old Fond du Lac man, who was arrested just south of the store.
The driver is still on the loose, and deputies say that a backpack left behind by the suspects contained about 2.3 pounds of marijuana.
This incident is still under investigation.
