GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – The Packers have extended yet another key member of their special teams unit with punter Daniel Whelan putting pen to paper on a new deal.
The Ireland native Whelan signed with the New Orleans Saints as an undrafted free agent in 2022, before being released and playing for the XFL’s D.C. Defenders, where he earned awards for his punting prowess.
‘Go Pack Go Act’ introduced by Wied, Baldwin to ensure access to Packers games for all Wisconsinites
Ever since he joined the Packers, he’s played 37 games (three postseason) and registered two of the greatest punting seasons in Packers history in terms of average punt distance, with a 46.2-yard average and 46.1-yard average in 2023 and 2024, respectively.
Whelan became the first punter in team history to average 46+ yards per punt and 40+ net yards per punt in the same season, doing so in 2024.
The details of the contract have not been released; however, both kicker Brandon McManus and long snapper Matt Orzech received three-year extensions, thus it’s probable that the same contract was handed to Whelan.
