(WFRV) – Festival Foods, a Wisconsin-based grocery chain with dozens of locations statewide, has been sold to an out-of-state family-owned business.
Schnuck Markets, Inc. announced Tuesday that the Schnuck family’s 1939 Group has entered into a definitive agreement to purchase 100% of the shares of Skogen’s Festival Foods and Hometown Grocers, Inc.

The sale covers 51 stores, including 42 Festival Foods locations and nine Hometown Grocers banners such as Dave’s County Market, Don’s Quality Market, and Wittenberg Sentry Foods. Officials say all stores will keep their existing names and branding.
Todd Schnuck will become Chairman and CEO of the 1939 Group, in addition to leading Schnuck Markets, Festival Foods, and Hometown Grocers. “Schnucks, Skogen’s Festival Foods and Hometown Grocers share a strikingly similar set of core values, tracing our success to decades of consistently focusing on the communities we serve,” Schnuck said.

Festival Foods CEO Mark Skogen, who will step down following the sale, said the decision reflects a continuation of the company’s legacy. “Our focus has always been on treating every customer like a guest, supporting the growth of our associates who make that experience possible, and giving back to the communities we serve,” Skogen said.
The deal is expected to close in late October, pending approval. Festival Foods will keep its corporate offices in Onalaska and Green Bay, while Schnucks and the 1939 Group remain based in St. Louis, Missouri.
