(WFRV) – The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) reports emergency crews answered more than 140,000 calls for falls in 2024, about 10,000 more than in 2023.
That means one out of every five 911 ambulance runs statewide last year involved someone who had fallen, according to a new DHS report released during Falls Prevention Week.

“Falls remain a serious injury and health concern in Wisconsin,” said State Health Officer Paula Tran. “This report highlights the pressing need for increased access to falls prevention programming and supplies to reduce falls while supporting the independence and health of aging Wisconsinites.”
Health officials are urging residents, caregivers, and community groups to take simple steps, like removing home tripping hazards, improving lighting, and staying active, to lower the risk of serious injuries.
