GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – The Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame Inc. celebrated the installation of a new bust for one of the franchise’s most legendary players outside Green Bay West High School.
Packers and Pro Football Hall of Famer Arnie Herber grew up in Green Bay, graduating from Green Bay West High School in 1928, before he joined his hometown team and became the NFL’s first truly great long-ball passer.

Herber was the first player in NFL history to throw for 1,000 yards in a season, going on to win four NFL Championships in 11 seasons. The bust installation was part of the Hall of Fame Inc.’s Legacy Series, which recognizes the most legendary Green and Gold icons in schools.
The ceremony kicked off at 10 a.m. right at the newly renovated Del Marcelle Stadium, with some of Herber’s greatest achievements listed on a plaque above. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1966.
“Arnie’s family is here, which is really exciting. It was nice that they were able to come,” Packers Hall of Fame President Dr. Donald Sipes said. “Arnie was an iconic player, but a lot of people didn’t know about him, which is why we started wanting to do that so we can show off people who were around a long time ago.”
The Legacy Series has installed a bust of Curly Lambeau outside Green Bay East in 2023 and a Vince Lombardi one at Lombardi Middle School.
