KENOSHA, Wis. (WFRV) – Kenosha residents can set out yard waste for the city’s annual fall curbside compostables program beginning Monday, October 6, 2025, through Saturday, November 29, 2025.
The Kenosha Fire Department is reminding residents that burning leaves in backyards is not allowed. Only clean, dry firewood may be used for recreational fires.
Officials encourage residents to use the city’s fall curbside compost collection program to dispose of leaves and other yard waste instead of burning them.
To be collected, leaves and other compostables must be placed in city-approved biodegradable bags, Bag To Nature, BioBag, or Ecoguard. Bags must weigh 40 pounds or less and be set at the curb in a separate pile after 6:30 p.m. the night before collection and before 6 a.m. on pickup day.
The city turns the collected material into free, high-grade compost for residents and says biodegradable bags lower costs and improve compost quality.
To help offset bag costs, Kenosha is offering $2 coupons for each box of approved bags (limit four per visit). Coupons are available at:
- Department of Public Works & City Clerk – 625 52nd St.
- Kenosha Water Utility – 4401 Green Bay Rd.
- City website – kenosha.org
Participating retailers include Prairie Side Ace Hardware, Festival Foods, Lowe’s, JC Licht Ace Hardware, Menards, Woodman’s Market, and Piggly Wiggly.
