JACKSON COUNTY, Wis. (WFRV) – A Sheriff’s Office in Wisconsin is mourning the loss of a beloved K9 who died after a battle with cancer.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office said that K9 Gus’ death came after a few days of sudden illness, leading him to be checked out at the veterinarian, where he was diagnosed with terminal cancer. K9 Gus unfortunately passed away on Wednesday with loved ones at his side.
“We’d like to thank Deputy Mark Moan and K9 Gus for their service to Jackson County as well as express our condolences to Deputy Moan, the Moan family and all who knew and loved Gus,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a release.
Deputy Mark Moan and K9 Gus had been a partnership for several years, helping in searches for missing individuals, as well as attending public events.
The duo was an active part of the canine unit attending those events, such as the County Fair, Student Government Day and Trunk or Treat festivities.
