Kari Lake, acting CEO of the U.S. Agency for Global Media, told Newsmax on Wednesday that Bill Gates’ recent remarks minimizing the threat of climate change prove that decades of alarmism were designed to manipulate public opinion rather than protect the planet.
Lake told “Rob Schmitt Tonight” that Gates’ new tone marks a stunning reversal after years of warning that fossil fuel use would cause a “climate catastrophe.”
“You think about what they did to the young generation — they’re so afraid,” Lake said. “Every day in school they’re hearing that the world’s going to come to an end, the climate is going to be destroyed, they’re not going to have clean air to breathe.
“Putting a lot of paranoia in our kids about this climate hoax.”
Gates, co-founder of Microsoft and a longtime climate activist, said Tuesday that global warming, while serious, is “not the end of the world.”
Speaking at a New York Times event, Gates said that because of technological progress and emissions reductions, “we will not get anywhere near 3 degrees [Celsius] of warming.”
Lake said that after “trillions of dollars” spent on global climate initiatives and economic disruptions caused by green-energy mandates, Gates’ new tone shows Americans were misled.
“I think it’s coincidental that a day ago, I think 24 hours ago, Chuck Grassley [R-Iowa] in the Senate Judiciary Committee announcing an investigation into the Bill Gates Foundation for $23 million, I think it was that maybe it was even more than that in grant money given to the CCP.”
Lake linked Gates’ shift to renewed scrutiny of his foundation’s activities involving Chinese Communist Party. Grassley, chair of the Judiciary Committee, on Tuesday opened an investigation into whether several major foundations — including the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation — are complying with IRS tax-exempt rules, given their reported funding to the Chinese government and its allies.
In a letter to Gates Foundation CEO Mark Suzman, Grassley cited reports that the foundation in 2023 directed about $11.7 million to various arms of the Chinese Communist Party, $2 million to a company the Pentagon said works with China’s military, and $6.7 million to state-run Chinese universities.
He also referred to fiscal 2022 filings showing roughly $23 million to more than 20 Chinese entities, some labeled “foreign governments.” Grassley requested documents by Nov. 10.
The letter is an inquiry, not a finding of wrongdoing.
“So, I think he’s in a lot of trouble right now, and he’s watching, as we all are, as more and more documents are being declassified,” Lake said. “When we get documents declassified on the climate hoax, he’s probably trying to get ahead of what happens then.”
