33-year-old Wisconsin man arrested after police pursuit, allegedly under influence of meth while driving

ALTOONA, Wis. (WFRV) – A 33-year-old Wisconsin man was arrested late Wednesday night after officers were sent to a Kwik Trip after multiple reports of an ‘erratic’ person outside.

The Altoona Police Department reported that people said the man entered a person’s vehicle and took his shirt off at the Kwik Trip on Baumbach Way. Officers found the man leaving in a vehicle and continuing to drive erratically.

The suspect reportedly stopped after an initial attempt by police and negotiations between the two parties began. He allegedly refused to exit the vehicle and police reported he showed signs of meth use as he fled.

He stopped twice for officers who attempted to negotiate with him to exit the vehicle, but he fled each time and reportedly violated traffic laws. The Eau Claire County Sheriff’s Office deployed tire deflation devices while Altoona Police attempted to block the suspect vehicle.

Upon another stop, the suspect, identified as Joshua Shult of Ladysmith, exited the car while reportedly resisting arrest; however, officers used a taser to get him in custody.

Officers found meth, THC and other drug paraphernalia in the car. Shult was reportedly arrested for drugged driving two days beforehand in Rusk County and he faces the following charges for this incident:

  • 2nd OWI
  • Fleeing/Eluding
  • Resisting arrest
  • Meth possession
  • THC possession
  • Drug paraphernalia possession
