Baldwin brings ‘Hands Off Medicaid’ tour to Green Bay as GOP health proposals move forward

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin was in Green Bay on Tuesday as part of her “Hands Off Medicaid Tour,” voicing opposition to Republican-backed health care proposals in Congress.

Baldwin says GOP lawmakers are pushing plans that would make deep cuts to Medicaid, threatening access to health care for many Wisconsinites while giving tax breaks to the wealthy.

“As we know, threats to Medicaid are very serious right now as the president and Republicans in Congress are proposing massive slashes to the Medicaid program,” Baldwin said.

Meanwhile, Republican Congressman Tony Wied co-sponsored a bipartisan bill designed to strengthen rural health care services. The legislation would provide training and equipment to medical staff in rural areas, particularly to support emergency obstetric services during pregnancy, labor, delivery, and postpartum care.

“This allows for grants and funding to teach those in the medical community to help them deal with pregnant mothers when they’re out in rural areas,” Wied explained.

The contrasting efforts reflect the broader debate in Washington over the future of health care access and funding.
