FOND DU LAC, Wis. (WFRV) – After a standoff Friday night on Fond du Lac’s South National Avenue, officers provided details on its resolution that led to a resident being taken into custody.
Around 7:55 p.m. on April 11, officers with the Fond du Lac Police Department (FDLPD) responded to an apartment after getting a 911 call from a resident who stated her son had a gun and had reportedly fired multiple rounds from the handgun inside the apartment, one of which shattered a bedroom window.
A shelter-in-place was ordered for residents nearby as a perimeter of the apartment was set up. SWAT and Crisis Negotiations teams from both the FDLPD and Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office were called to the scene.
Around 10:15 p.m., after officers said the situation began to escalate, authorities used an ‘explosive breach tactical technique’ to get into the apartment, safely taking the man into custody.
“This situation is a powerful reminder of the importance of compassion, training, and teamwork in protecting lives and navigating complex crisis with care and professionalism,” said Chief Aaron Goldstein. “FDLPD wants to remind our community that help is available and we ask anyone who knows of someone struggling and possibly may be in crisis to reach out so that we can connect that person to the resources they need.”
No additional details were provided.
