Former Appleton West teacher arrested for alleged sexual relationship with student

APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) – A former Appleton West High School teacher was arrested on Tuesday on allegations that she had a sexual relationship with a student.

The Appleton Police Department reported that Rebecca Ryan of Neenah was determined to be in a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student while teaching at Appleton West during the 2017-18 academic school year.

She has not been formally charged yet, but was arrested on three counts of sexual assault of a child by a school staff member. The incidents were reported in March 2025.

According to the release, Appleton Police say that no evidence at this time suggests other students were involved. Ryan was not a teacher at the time of her arrest.
