ALLOUEZ, Wis. (WFRV) – One worker is in the hospital after being exposed to a chemical leak Monday morning at the water treatment facility in Allouez, officials said.
According to a release from the Green Bay Metro Fire Department, firefighters and the Hazardous Material Response Team (HAZMAT) responded to the water treatment facility at 10:55 a.m. for reports of a potential leak.
Upon arrival, a 100-pound chlorine cylinder was found to have developed a leak near its valve. The leak was able to be contained to a designated room of the building with what was said to be minimal risk to any nearby residents.

HAZMAT sent two people inside the facility wearing non-encapsulated Level A suits to quickly contain the leak.
During the incident, only one person was reportedly exposed to the leak. They were taken to a local hospital for further evaluation.
Officials state that the leak has not impacted the safety of the water supply system and air monitoring was done to ensure the safety of the surrounding community.
