(WFRV) – Authorities in Green Bay are reminding motorists across Wisconsin to move over or slow down for emergency vehicles stopped on or near roadways.
The Green Bay Police Department shared a message on social media, emphasizing that moving over is not only courteous to those on the roadside, whether it’s for a traffic stop, a disabled vehicle, or an emergency vehicle, but it’s also required by law.

Wisconsin’s Move Over Law (Wis. Stat. 346.072) requires drivers to move to the lane farthest from a stopped emergency or maintenance vehicle with flashing lights if there are two or more lanes moving in the same direction.

If it’s unsafe to move over, drivers must slow down. The law is designed to create a safety zone for emergency responders and roadside workers.
Violations can result in citations, and more serious penalties may apply if a crash or injury occurs.
