NEENAH, Wis. (WFRV) – Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month is annually celebrated in May, and 2025 is special, the 50th anniversary of Hmong refugees coming to the United States.
On Tuesday afternoon, Neng Thao came to Neenah High School to showcase live music, speaking in Hmong dialects through instruments.

Thao is a Harvard-educated scientist, artist and author born in a refugee camp in Thailand after the Vietnam War, but grew up in Wisconsin.
Neng Thao speaks languages through nine different instruments, and through the performances, he provided students insight into not only his life, but the history of the Hmong people and the cultural importance of music.
