Inmate dies at Dane County Jail; investigation underway

MADISON, Wis. (WFRV) – Authorities are investigating after an inmate was found dead Tuesday morning at the Dane County Jail in Madison.

According to officials, the man was found unresponsive around 5:45 a.m. in a male dormitory. Emergency personnel from the Madison Fire Department responded and attempted life-saving measures, but the inmate was pronounced dead at the scene by the Dane County Medical Examiner.

Madison detectives processed the scene, collected evidence, reviewed digital records, and interviewed jail staff and residents throughout the day.

An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday. The investigation remains ongoing.
