Man hospitalized after De Pere bedroom fire causes $5,000 in damage

DE PERE, Wis. (WFRV) – A man was taken to the hospital Thursday after a bedroom fire caused thousands of dollars in damage to a home on Killarney Trail in De Pere.

According to De Pere Fire Rescue, crews responded to a fire in the 700 block of Killarney Trail and found a mattress on fire in a bedroom. The male occupant was still in the room at the time but was being escorted to the door when firefighters arrived.

The fire was contained to the bedroom, though there was minor smoke damage to the hallway. Officials say working smoke detectors helped alert other occupants in the home.
