MARINETTE, Wis. (WFRV) – A Marinette County man was sentenced Thursday to prison for a crash that killed an eight-month-old infant.
Court records show 47-year-old Michael Galbraith was sentenced to three years in prison followed by five years of extended supervision for a charge of homicide by negligent operation of a vehicle. He was also sentenced to three months in jail on a charge of operating with a restricted controlled substance with a minor passenger under 16, which will run concurrently.
A second count of operating with a restricted controlled substance with a minor passenger was dismissed but read in during the sentencing. Galbraith will also have his driver’s license suspended for one year.
The charges stem from a crash on October 6, 2023, around 4:40 p.m., when authorities say Galbraith stopped at a stop sign at US Highway 41 and Kamm Road, then pulled into the intersection and collided with a southbound vehicle.
That vehicle was driven by 30-year-old Cody Price of Oconto, who had his 8-month-old daughter Alana in the back seat. Although Alana was properly restrained in a child’s safety seat, she was flown from the scene for medical treatment and died on October 10.
Thursday’s sentencing brings Galbraith’s criminal case to a close.
