(WFRV) – On January 26, New York Blood Center Enterprises, a major blood donation organization, was hit by a cyberattack that affected its computer systems.
To help, The Community Blood Center (CBC) in Appleton is working to support efforts to ensure hospitals get the blood and platelets they need. Other blood centers across the country are also stepping in to transport blood products to the affected areas.

The Community Blood Center’s President and CEO, John Hagins told Local 5, “It hampers the ability of those blood centers to collect blood, process it, and send it to meet patient needs and in those times the blood community across the U.S. has to come together to make sure that all patient needs are met.”
The Association for the Advancement of Blood & Biotherapies (AABB) has set up a special task force to organize resources and move blood products where they are needed.
Blood donations are essential for hospital patients, especially during times of crisis. If you are eligible, please consider scheduling a donation to help maintain a steady blood supply for hospitals across the country.
