UPDATE: Armed man near Menasha High School taken into custody, brief lockdown

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 12, 2025, 3:33 p.m.

MENASHA, Wis. (WFRV) – Officers in Menasha provided an update on the reported ‘active incident’ from earlier on Wednesday, saying a man armed with a rifle near Menasha High School was taken into custody.

A release from the Menasha Police Department states that around 2:30 p.m. on March 12, multiple departments responded to the 800 block of Milwaukee Street near Menasha High School for reports of a man walking in the area with a rifle.

Authorities quickly worked to establish a perimeter and worked with the High School to be placed on a temporary lockdown out of precaution.

With help from the Neenah Police Department, Fox Crossing Police Department, Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office, and the Wisconsin State Patrol, officers successfully found the suspect and took him into custody without further incident.

Officers say the firearm was secured, and there is no ongoing threat to the public.

“This was a swift and coordinated response by our officers and partner agencies to ensure the safety of our community,” said Menasha Police Chief Nick Thorn. “We appreciate the public’s patience and cooperation as we worked to resolve this incident safely.”

The investigation remains active and additional details will be provided later.
