OSHKOSH, Wis. (WFRV) – Recently, a brand new mobile job lab opened at the Oshkosh Correctional Institution, said officials with the Wisconsin Department of Corrections (DOC).

According to a release, the newest job lab is a collaboration between the DOC and the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development (DWD) to offer job readiness services to inmates before they are released back into the community.
This lab, and these types of interventions, are key to setting persons in our care up for success prior to their release. We are thankful for our partnerships with DWD and the Fox Valley Workforce Development Board. The individuals at OSCI now have enhanced opportunities to find and obtain meaningful employment, which is a critical component to successful reentry.
DOC Secretary Jared Hoy
The job lab at the Oshkosh Correctional Institute is said to be a mobile unit that was previously at the New Lisbon Correctional Institution before that facility created a new permanent space.
In March, the first Oshkosh Correctional inmates were able to access the job lab, create Job Center of Wisconsin accounts, and search for open employment opportunities.
Additionally, the lab will allow those inside the Oshkosh Correctional Institute to receive assistance with resume development, career assessments, job searching, applications, interviewing skills, and, eventually, an opportunity to interview before their release.
The Fox Valley Workforce Development Board is expected to help provide the mobile job lab with staffing resources.
By partnering with the Wisconsin Department of Corrections, we are not only providing individuals with meaningful employment opportunities but also tapping into a valuable labor force that will strengthen Wisconsin’s economy. This collaboration bridges the gap between rehabilitation and workforce development, paving the way for long-term success for all.

DOC officials say the first quarter of 20225 saw 681 people receive services throughout the state via similar job labs.

They add that with nearly 400 individuals being released from the Oshkosh Correctional Facility every year, the new mobile job lab will help to provide these individuals with critical opportunities for success.
