MADISON, Wis. (WFRV) – For the 14th consecutive year, officials say the University of Wisconsin Hospitals has been ranked by US News & World Report as the number 1 hospital in the Badger State.

According to a release, US News & World Report evaluated more than 4,000 hospitals as part of its Best Hospitals list, and while UW Hospitals is ranked as the best in Wisconsin, it has also had eight medical and surgical specialties ranked among the top 50 throughout the entire country.
The eight UW Hospitals medical and surgical specialties ranked in the top 50 in the country are as follows:
- Diabetes and endocrinology
- Ear, nose, and throat
- Gastroenterology and gastrointestinal surgery
- Geriatrics
- Obstetrics and Gynecology
- Orthopedics
- Pulmonology and lung surgery
- Rehabilitation and urology
Hospital officials at UW say diabetes and endocrinology, as well as rehabilitation, are newly ranked this year. Despite not being ranked, they add that four additional medical and surgery specialties, cancer, cardiology, heart and vascular surgery, and neurology, neurosurgery, and urology, were also rated as “high performing.”

UW Hospitals, which includes University Hospital and East Madison Hospital, was also said to have received the highest rating for the following 18 procedures and conditions that impact those who are 65 years old and older.

- Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
- Colon cancer surgery
- Gynecological cancer surgery
- Heart attack
- Heart failure
- Hip fracture
- Hip replacement
- Kidney failure
- Knee replacement
- Leukemia
- Lymphoma and myeloma
- Lung cancer surgery
- Pneumonia
- Prostate cancer surgery
- Stroke and transcatheter aortic valve replacement
