(WFRV) – With wildfires raging across the western U.S. and Canada, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) firefighters and equipment have been deployed to help.
So far in 2025, Wisconsin crews have responded to over 65 out-of-state fire assignments. DNR says staff are working in 12 states and provinces, including 20 people in Canada. A press release states engines are currently stationed in Oregon and California, while six staff are serving in northern Manitoba.

These deployments are part of mutual aid agreements that allow states and provinces to share resources during major fire events. Wisconsin’s newly accredited Incident Management Team is also on standby to assist.
With recent rain lowering fire risk in Wisconsin, the DNR says it’s a good time to send support. Nearly 70 large wildfires are currently burning across the western U.S., and more Wisconsin crews may be deployed in the weeks ahead.
