President Donald Trump and Iran say an agreement aimed at ending the conflict is expected to be signed Friday, CNN reported.
The deal is being described as an initial step, not a full settlement of every issue between Washington and Tehran. It is expected to focus first on stopping hostilities and easing immediate regional tensions.
A major part of the agreement involves the Strait of Hormuz, a key shipping route for global oil supplies. Reopening and securing that passage would be one of the most closely watched parts of the deal.
Questions remain over what comes next. Iran’s nuclear program, sanctions, frozen assets, and longer-term security guarantees are still expected to require further negotiations.
The announcement comes as world leaders meet at the G7 summit, where the conflict has become a central topic. For now, officials are watching whether both sides follow through before Friday’s planned signing.
