A federal judge has temporarily ordered the White House to restore access for CNN, MS NOW and Politico after President Donald Trump barred the three news organizations from White House grounds. CNN reported that U.S. District Judge Timothy Kelly issued the order early Thursday as the outlets challenge the administration’s decision in court.
The ruling gives the organizations their access back for 14 days while the lawsuit moves forward. According to CNN’s coverage of the legal dispute, the outlets argued that they were denied proper constitutional protections before their credentials were revoked. The Justice Department defended the restrictions in part by citing national security concerns.
Kelly found that the organizations had met the requirements for temporary relief and were likely to succeed, at least on their due-process argument. The ruling does not resolve the full lawsuit or permanently determine the outlets’ access.
The case now continues as the court considers the broader constitutional questions surrounding White House press credentials and government restrictions on journalists.
