2024 WPS Volunteer Awards spotlights individuals giving back to their communities

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – Local 5’s Tom Zalaski and Michele McCormack were early risers on Thursday, emceeing the Wisconsin Public Service’s Volunteer Awards.

The event at the Lambeau Field Atrium started with a breakfast at 7:15 a.m., followed by the program at 8:00 a.m., which spotlighted volunteers who give selflessly of their time to help others and help local nonprofits fulfill their important missions.

All individuals and groups who were nominated were honored during the event, and award recipients and runners-up were announced in eight categories.

The eight categories included the Adult Award, Arts and Culture Award, Education Award, Heart of Gold Lifetime Achievement, Large Group Award, Small Group Award, Volunteer Leadership Award, and Youth Award.

Each award recipient was given $1,000, while runners-up were given $500 to gift toward the nonprofit of their choosing. The recipients of the Youth Award received the funds as scholarships.

Additionally, funds raised before, during, and after the event allowed The Volunteer Center of Brown County to continue its mission of creating a stronger community by engaging volunteers to support nonprofits.
