Authorities continue large search efforts at landfill and near bodies of water as Elijah Vue’s disappearance nears one week

TWO RIVERS, Wis. (WFRV) – Since the initial disappearance of 3-year-old Elijah Vue, search efforts have continued day and night on land and water.

The Two Rivers Police Department confirmed in a news release on their Facebook page Monday night that Elijah has not yet been located.

“With the help of Sheriff Deputies from all over the state, a large search remains at the landfill,” read the release. “Searches of both the East and West Twin Rivers are being conducted with the help of Wings of Hope and NorthStar, as well as Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Department Dive Team and the Brown County Sheriff’s Department Dive team.”

A Two Rivers local, Richard Quinton, who was who was in the area photographing wildlife to;ld Local Five’s Samantha Petters Elijah Vue’s case has affected the entire community.

“I’ve lived in Two Rivers for 26 years, and this story with Elijah… it’s just sad,” said Quinton. “I’m thankful we have had all the help we’ve had… for them to come out and help.”

As new developments unfold in the case against Vue’s mother and her boyfriend, Quinton said the things that are coming out to the public are unfathomable.

“This stuff should not happen,” stated Quinton. “I just… each person thinks differently, but I just don’t understand how this could happen…”

Both Katrina Baur and Jesse Vang have officially been charged with neglecting a child. This comes after Elijah Vue, Baur’s son, has been missing since the morning of February 20.

“I’ve watched a lot of the effort that has gone into it,” explained Quinton. “I wish there was more I could do to help, but I sit here, and I just… it hurts.”

Two Rivers Police Department has also warned people of third-party scams seeking money or personal information from those helping to find Elijah and has stressed that the department is the main source for up-to-date information regarding the case.
