Car enthusiasts gather as NWTC’s Auto Club hosts 36th annual car show in Green Bay

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – One of the largest car shows in Wisconsin has once again come to NWTC for its 36th year.

Thousands of car enthusiasts made a pit stop at the show, hosted by the school’s auto club. All of the proceeds from the event go toward scholarships, field trips, and other endeavors for the students enrolled in the program.

Automotive instructor Brent Westlund says, “I think it sets them up for success as far as managing certain things too. It’s a big deal. You can see the amount of people and cars that are here, so it gives them a sense of responsibility and a sense of pride too.”

More than 800 cars were on display, including one 1956 Chevrolet 2-door sedan owned by Peshtigo native Jay Beyer.

Beyer and his wife have been collecting cars for several years, and appreciate what car shows like NWTC’s can do to garner interest in automobiles.

“It’s fun to chat with everyone you meet. You get to talk to the young people and get them enthusiastic about keeping the old car tradition going,” Beyer says.

Speaking of traditions, Debbie Nackers and her husband Ed from Hobart have been going to the show for years. Debbie says one of the reasons she and Ed first connected was through their love of cars.

“I think we met over cars and motorcycles, so we just love to look at all the different ones, and if we win the lottery maybe we can get a couple of them,” Nackers says.

The auto club was also helping an important cause at the show. Students donated a Jeep they worked on to the local nonprofit Ecumenical Partnership for Housing, which specializes in finding homes for those in need.
