Nearly 13-mile pursuit on I-41 ends with arrest of Green Bay man, drug contraband found in vehicle

FOND DU LAC, Wis. (WFRV) – A Green Bay man with a prior criminal conviction for fleeing officers was arrested after a nearly 13-mile pursuit in Fond du Lac County early Friday morning.

According to the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy attempted to pull over the 22-year-old man from Green Bay around 2:10 a.m. on March 1 for a speed violation on I-41 near Hwy 151 in Fond du Lac.

After the deputy turned on their sirens and lights, the driver allegedly attempted to speed away, subsequently exiting I-41 onto Hickory Street before getting back onto I-41 northbound.

Deputies say the pursuit continued at a ‘high rate of speed’ and attempted to deploy Stop Stick tire deflation devices, however, the suspect was able to avoid them. It was noted that a Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office squad car, and a semi-truck hit the tire deflation device, affecting both the squad car and semi-truck’s tires.

The suspect then reportedly exited I-41 north at CTH N and hit a raised median on CTH N before becoming disabled in a nearby ditch. The 22-year-old then allegedly tried to flee on foot but was taken into custody after a brief foot pursuit.

Deputies reportedly found ‘illegal drug contraband’ during a search of the vehicle.

The release stated that the Green Bay man was on probation through the State of Wisconsin Department of Corrections for Vehicle Operator Flee and Elude Officers. It was also noted that he has prior criminal convictions for Disorderly Conduct, Operating Without a Valid License, and Vehicle Operator Flee and Elude Officers.

The driver was arrested for Vehicle Operator Flee and Elude Officers, 2nd Degree Recklessly Endanger Safety, Operate a Motor Vehicle with a Restricted Controlled Substance, and a hold placed by the Wisconsin Department of Corrections. He was also cited for several traffic violations.

Deputies say the pursuit lasted just under 13 miles and that nobody was injured as a result of the incident.
