Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources: Otter trapping season to close throughout the state

MADISON, Wis. (WFRV) – Officials with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) say the otter trapping season is coming to an end throughout the state with the northern zone having their season close early.

According to a release from the DNR, unseasonably warm weather and stable water levels have led to a lot of success for licensed trappers so much so that the otter trapping season in the northern zone is closing almost a month early.

Officials say the trapping season in the northern zone was originally supposed to run from November 4 through April 30, however, the season is now closing on April 1 at midnight as the statewide harvest quota of 2,500 river otters is projected to be reached.

While the trapping season does close early for the northern zone, the southern zone will see its otter trapping season end as scheduled on March 31.
